At the table today the kids put Halloween stickers on the first letter of their name. At circle we talked about what was inside a pumpkin then cut it open and explored what we found. Some were eager to stick their hands in and grab out seeds and pulp while others were very happy to sit back and watch. We will put the pumpkins in our tactile center tomorrow so they can enjoy it some more.

At the table today we played with orange playdough that had pumpkin pie spice in it. We had fun making pumpkins out of the playdough. At circle we began reading the story "The Little Old Lady Who Was Not Afraid of Anything". It is a fun story to read and retell and there is a song we have that goes with it. After the story we played "pass the pumpkin" and passed a small pumpkin around the circle to a song that goes fast and slow.
At the table today we finger painted (or used a paint brush)pumpkins orange and used our fingers to draw faces on them. At circle we began reading "The Runaway Pumpkin" and then worked on prepositions by following directions to put a pumpkin, under, on top of, beside, in front of and behind a basket. Then held a paper pumpkin while singing a preposition song and followed the directions to put it on top of our heads, behind our back, next to our leg, under our feet.
At the table today we laced pretzels. This was very motivating for the kids because they got to eat the pretzels when they were finished if they wanted to. Lacing is a great fine motor activity and you can lace just about anything that has a whole in the middle including cereal, beads, penne noodles, etc. The kids had a lot of fun retelling our story "The Bag I'm Taking to Grandma's" and packing our bag again. We also talked about what each of us pack in a bag when we go somewhere over night.
At the table today we cut play dough. Cutting play dough is a fun alternative to cutting paper and is a great way for kids to work on learning to cut. We began a new story this week called "the bag I'm taking to grandmas". In this story a boy packs a bag full of toys to take to grandma's house. After the story we worked together to pack a bag with the items from the story.
At the table today we tore tissue paper and glued the pieces on a large leaf cut out. The kids enjoyed tearing the paper but had even more fun squeezing the glue bottles! At circle we listened to a story called "The Rain Came Down" as it poured outside. Due to the weather, we spent a few extra minutes in the gym today and also had fun with our obstacle course.
*Remember, there is NO SCHOOL on Monday due to district wide Professional Development. At the table today we built with small blocks. We made towers, bridges, pyramids and trains. We also worked on sorting, counting and naming the colors of the blocks. In the gym we had fun with soft footballs and soft volley balls. We practiced throwing and catching or rolling the ball with a friend.
