*NO SCHOOL - Friday, October 11th.
*Come see Mrs. Vaughan and me at Culver's October 9!
Thank you for wearing red today! It was a great way to reinforce our learning! We sorted colors today with animals and vehicles. We talked about the colors, counted the objects, and worked on categories with the objects. Come see Mrs. Vaughan and me at Parent Learning Night tonight! We are presenting about music and learning. See everyone in green tomorrow!

Today, the fun continues with another fun play recipe. We froze shaving cream!!! It was icy cold & super fluffy. The shaving cream was crunchy feeling at first then became fluffy and expanded as it thawed. We had cars to drive in it which helped for those who originally didn't want to touch it. In the gym we used the parachute working of following directions of moving it up and down, fast and slow. Later we put soft balls on it that bounced around like popcorn popping.
*Please check your child's folder, we will be starting a color theme next week and would like for the kids to be dressed in the colors we will be working on each day to help make it fun and meaningful! We practiced cutting/snipping cooked spaghetti noodles. It sticky, fun and easy to cut. Our new song for the week is "The Factory Song" it is about different vehicles that are made in a factory and the sounds they make. We sing about a car, motorcycle, bus, train and helicopter. We are working real hard on playing with our friends and taking turns during circle time, gym time and center time.
We laced apples today to work on fine motor and hand-eye coordination. Pictures went well, everyone was very cooperative and smiled!!! Our sensory table was filled with homemade moon dough which is flour and baby oil. It felt soft and cold on our hands and was fun to mold, scoop and dump. For the kids who didn't want to touch it with their bare hands we had sand shovels and rakes for them to use. It was such a wonderful sensory experience and it smelt great too!! Have a great weekend!!
*Make sure to check your email you registered with us. I emailed out a you tube link for you to view that Mrs. Allen and I created. It is full of great information about the curriculum we use and hot topics around the district. We made the cutest tissue paper apple trees today. We tore red, yellow and green tissue paper into small pieces, rolled them into little balls, dipped them in glue and put them on a paper tree. This used many different fine motor skills and was messy! Once we had finished we counted the number of apples on our trees and talked about the different color of apples we chose. This week our story is Matt and Molly: The Apple Tree. Matt and Molly is a 4 picture sequence literacy program that teaches communication and literacy skills with familiar characters, predictable routines, and fun antics. Children develop skills in vocabulary, grammar, representational play, sequencing, reading comprehension, predicting, identifying feelings, answering questions, and determining missing information. Being made up of only 4 pictures the kids enjoy being able to help retell the story by the second or third day of reading it!
*Don't forget tomorrow is picture day!!! Even if you are not ordering pictures, your child will have their picture taken for the yearbook. If your child is not at school tomorrow, Mr. Pearce will be back on Monday to finish up EC/ECSE student Today we patterned different colored apples. Patterning is a basic math skill upon which many mathematical concepts are based. In preschool, identifying and creating patterns is just the beginning of the mastery of life-long mathematical skills. We sang "Five Little Monkeys Jumping on the Bed" to practice, math (subtraction) and jumping off two feet.
We made apple fingerprints on an apple tree today. Each kid got to pick the color or colors of apples they wanted to print with. This was fun and got to be very messy! Today we started a new hello song called "Hello Everybody". In this song we clap our hands, stomp our feet, shake our hips, blink our eyes and nod our heads. Not only was it a new and fun way to say hello to everyone but a great way to work on imitating motor movements.
Everyone really enjoyed the cooler weather on the playground today! The swings were very popular. For our opening activity we laced apple jacks on a string. The kids had fun snacking while working their little fingers. Lacing and/or stringing has many fine motor benefits. It helps with dressing skills (especially clothing fasteners, like buttons and zippers) pencil grasp and pencil control during coloring and writing activities. Other benefits are: improved visual perceptual, visual motor and cognitive skills. This is very easy to work on at home as well!
This week is custodian appreciation week. We painted our hands and made a large thank you card for our wonderful custodians. While we painted we talked about how the paint felt on our hands. It was cold, it tickled and made our hands look silly! During circle we had a lot of fun reading/singing The Wide Mouthed Bullfrog. Increasing purposeful play has been our big focus this week. Purposeful play increases school readiness.
Remember…. Children are curious and naturally want to explore the world around them. They are always ready to learn. |
