We finger painted (or some of us used a paint brush) on our names today. Their names were written in glue then left to dry so the letters were raised. We had fun with hula-hoops in the gym and during center time we pretended to order from menus in the dramatic play center and ate birthday cake. We used instruments during circle time and played them to the song "Stop and GO". Have a great Holiday weekend, we look forward to seeing everyone on Tuesday!

Today we decorated a cut out of the first letter of our name. We squeezed glue onto our paper and put puff balls and sequins on the glue. Squeezing glue bottles is a great way to increase the fine motor muscles in little hands. We had a tornado drill this morning and the kids did very well! We go into the basement of the elementary and the whole elementary was down there as well. It was pretty exciting for our little ones!
At the table today we decorated a cover for the kids individual goal binders. They used markers, crayons and stickers. We sang a new song during circle called "School Family" in this song the kids get to shake a friends hand, give a high five, give a pinky hug and give a hug. We are working hard on developing peer relationships and this song is a great way to start! During circle we charted how we get to school and then counted to see which group was more, car riders or bus riders. We will continue this activity again tomorrow.
We sorted objects by attributes (color, size, type) at the table today. We used watercolors in the art center today, used measuring cups and spoons to scoop and dump beans in the science center. In the dramatic play center we made a birthday cake and in the construction center we put together the train track. We had a wonderful first week of school. Everyone is adjusting well to our routine and we are building our School Family.
We had fun playing with play-dough at the table today. We cut out shapes, animals, vehicles and made pancakes and cookies with it. At circle we enjoyed reading "Pete the Cat, Rocking in my School Shoes" and used a chart to see if there were more boys or girls at school. We played in the dramatic play center, the construction center and the art center today.
Don't forget next Monday, August 25 is Curriculum Night. Please watch for an email regarding more information. We explored shaving cream today! We had a lot of fun getting messy with the shaving cream today. Some kids did not like to touch it so we explored with a paint brush. We read "We're Different, We're the Same" again today. We will read this book again next week and do a graphing activity to go with it. Today in the gym we brought out a 4-way play tunnel and small gym balls. We worked on throwing or rolling the ball back and forth to a friend. It was a wonderful second day of school!
We had a great first day today! We were so busy the day seemed to fly by. We are beginning our year with the All About Me theme. We will continue this unit through next week. Today we read the book We're Different We're the Same and then sang a rhyming song about body parts and their function. We are making a Friends and Family board and would love to put up a family picture of each of our kids. If you have a family picture you would be willing to send in we would love to put it up!
