At the table today we played with playdough. We had fun making cookies, flowers, worms and snakes. During center time we opened up our sensory table which had colored corn kernels in it. There were measuring cups and regular cups in with the corn to scoop and dump. Our math and science center was also popular today, some of us played a math game with a dice and plastic peanuts. We worked on taking turns with peers to roll the dice as well as worked on counting peanuts to put in our cup.

Today we colored underneath the table! We laid on our back underneath the table and colored on paper that was taped to the table. This activity is great to build strength in our shoulders, which leads to increased fine motor strength. We are starting our fall/nature unit this week. During circle we began reading the story "Wide Mouth Bullfrog" where the frog sees a bird who eats wiggly worms, a mouse who eats seeds and berries and a gator who eats wide mouth bullfrogs :-).
We painted shapes at the table today. Some of us used paint brushes while others used hands! Once the shapes were covered we just painted on the table and loved every minute of it! At circle we played a shape matching game. We rolled a large dice that had shapes on it and then found the matching shape on the floor and threw a bean bag on it. This was a multi-step activity and was extra fun because we got to be up and moving while working.
We searched for button shaped in thera putty today at the table. It was fun to see what we could fine hidden in the gooey feeling putty! During circle we played a shape lotto (BINGO) game and worked on identifying shapes. We made it outside to the playground just in time today, it began raining on our way inside. In our dramatic play we area we grocery shopped with a grocery list we made.
At the table today we glued colorful sticks onto shapes. The kids had fun squeezing the glue bottles. Squeezing glue bottles is great for strengthening fine motor muscles. We sang "5 Fingers in My Pocket" at circle. We count down from five with this song until we get to zero and then all of our fingers come back. It is a silly song that the kids enjoy.
We are finishing our shapes unit this week. At the table we made shapes with wiki sticks. Wiki sticks are colorful wax covered sticks that are bendable and are sticky and can be used on any smooth surface. You can peel them up when finished. They are great for teaching many skills. At circle we learned a new song called "The Silly Dance Contest" where we get to dance silly, dance fast and dance in slow motion. We also worked on mat
At the table today we drew shapes in shaving cream. In the gym we played with large exercise balls. It was fun to bounce them, roll them and lay on top of them and be bounced. At circle we sorted plastic play food by shape, circle, square and triangle. The kids really enjoyed this activity and did really well with it.
We outlined shapes on the table today with small cubes. The kids had so much fun going on a shape hunt yesterday that we did it again today then charted on the SMART Board. We began reading the story "The Shape of Things" which has a lot of rhyming in it. We also did our Phonological Awareness group today and talked about the /Pp/ sound and different things that begin with the /Pp/ sound. We also talked about how it is an "exploder" and if we hold our hand in front of our mouth when make the /Pp/ sound we feel an "explosion" of air on our hand.
