At the table today we snipped around a paper plate to make snowflakes. We then mixed blue paint, white paint and glue together as well as purple paint, white paint and glue and painted our snowflakes. Once we were finished we sprinkled glitter on our glue and paint mixture to make our snowflakes sparkly! We were able to make it to the playground for a few minutes today due to the decent weather. The kids enjoyed the fresh air.

We taped butcher paper underneathe the table today for the kids to color on. We laid on our backs underneath the table to color on the paper! This activity provides proprioceptive input for children and encourages appropriate fine motor skills for pre-writing and creativity. The kids enjoyed this new activity!
At the table today we worked in our goal binders. We practiced tracing lines, shapes, letters of our names, naming shapes, colors as well as counting pictures of objects. The activities that are in each kids binders are linked to developmental milestones as well as our Learning Targets. Each kid has taken so much pride in their binder and love using a wipe off marker!
We enjoyed using instruments for the song "Stop and Go" and worked on big and small during circle. Don't forget Family Game Night is tonight down in the Panther Cub room. At the table today we made snowmen using shaving cream, glue and blue food coloring. We then used googly eyes, buttons and pipe cleaners to decorate them. This was a wonderful sensory experience. It felt like shaving cream when you first touched it, but then got very sticky from the glue. After each kid had the opportunity to touch it they could then choose to use their hands or a paint brush to spread it around.
We look forward to a full week next week! *Our table top activity today was stringing pretzels to make a necklace. Most of the kids had fun eating them as they strung them (if you find an empty string in their backpack it was once a necklace!) Our story this week is "Matt and Molly; Molly Eats Soup." In the story Molly tries eating her soup first with a fork then with a plastic knife, then finally figures out she needs a spoon to eat her soup.
Ms. Hofmann, our principal, has been recognized as the Kansas City Suburban Elementary Principal Association's Distinguished Principal 2013-14. She will be recognized at our Board of Education meeting Thursday, Jan. 23 at 7:00 p.m.Teachers, parents, and students are welcome to attend to show support. On March 8 she will be recognized at the Missouri Association of Elementary School Principals Spring State Conference at Tan Tar A. We practiced cutting strips of paper today at the table. A big focus of ours was correct hand placement. For snack today we made EZ-Mac, this was a great opportunity to work on spooning as well as to work on tasting a non-preferred food.
Don't forget there is no school Monday for MLK Day and Tuesday there is no school for teacher Professional Development. Enjoy your weekend, the weather is supposed to be wond We glued cotton balls on a snowman today! The kids had a lot of fun squeezing the glue bottles and pulling the cotton balls apart. We played in fake snow in the sensory table during center time. We scooped and dumped with shovels.
We worked on scribbling and drawing pictures today! One of our learning targets is to be able to use scribbles, shapes, pictures, letter like forms, and letters to write. We used small pencils and broken crayons to work on using a proper grasp.
We had so much fun playing with frozen shaving cream today. Some of us preferred to drive cars through it rather than put our hands in it and others had fun rubbing it up and down their arms as well as putting it on their face! This afternoon Mrs. Allen and I had a wonderful time in Conscious Discipline training. We are learning many valuable tools that have helped us to build a wonderful, safe school family! Please keep your eyes open for this month's newsletter in your child's folder this week!
In the gym we had fun pulling each other on scooters with jump ropes. This week the kids have had fun playing with our new doctors kit, airplane and firetrucks. Due to the cold weather we have had extended center time. This has given the kids an opportunity to work more on turn taking, asking peers to play, and using their imaginations!
Have a great weekend! |
